VERITAS RS III Roadster ready for production

After an eight-year buildup, the Veritas RS III has finally slithered into series production in Grafschaft-Gelsdorf, Germany. Just like the Dutch firm Spyker, Vermot AG has resurrected the post-war German racing marque that sold a few road-going versions of their racers to a handful of lucky enthusiasts. Now, the new company is doing less racing and more street scorching, and the RS III is its first foray into the world of production cars.

In Monterey this past August, we caught our first glimpse of the finally-ready-for-production Veritas RS III. With its newly revised front end (now with 50 percent more serpent!) it looks even more like a BMW Z8 on acid. Which is totally appropriate, because this retro rocketsled is powered by the same 5.0-liter V10 engine found in the M5 supersedan. With 500 hp propelling a scant 2,400 pounds, the 30 insane lucky folks who plunk down a million bucks for one of these can look forward to a 0-100km/h dash of just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of more than 215 MPH.

That’s Enzo-like performance for an Enzo-like price, but it offers ten times the exclusivity — not to mention Veritas started operating the same year as Enzo Ferrari in 1947. The difference is that this serpent lay dormant for almost 50 years, getting ready to strike. Vermot has released a slew of new photos and additional details about the car, which you can find in the press release after the jump.

2009 Bmw Z4 by AC Schnitzer

AC Schnitzer revealed today its latest customization kit for the 2009 Bmw Z4. The new programme consists in a chromed front grille and front lip spoiler, new side sills and a two-piece rear spoiler. The kit is completed by the AC Schnitzer Type IV in 18” or Type VI wheels in 18, 19 or 20 inch. Inside, we find the new aluminium cover for the i-Drive System Controller as well as the aluminium foot rests and pedal set.

Under the hood, the 3.0-liter bi-turbo petrol engine was boosted from 306 hp to an impressive 360 hp. With these numbers the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 286km/h. A new exhaust system was also added in order to improve the sound of the engine as well as a new suspension kit for better handling. No words about the price yet!

2009 BMW Z4 V10 by Manhart Racing

The M version of the BMW Z4 is famously known by nature for being anything but underpowered, since the chassis of the sports convertible already has a heck of a lot of work with the 343 HP and the forward thrust in the lower gears could last forever.

As is generally known however, the sport oriented motorist can never have enough power at his command. Sufficient cause for Günther Manhart, who by now has over 25 years experience in rebuilding BMW engines – a first for Europe – to transplant a brand new, much stronger heart into the Z4. The transplantation of the ten cylinder engine from the current M5 generation into the narrow engine bay of the roadster was anything but a walk in the park and it earned the Manhart Racing engineers quite a few grey hairs. Nevertheless: everything fitted in the end and now the fire of a 5.0 litre V10 engine with an impressive output of 550 HP blazes above the front axle of the Z4. A catalytic converter, a modified DME electronic control unit and the removal of the factory-set V-Max restriction up to 250 km/h are part of the rebuild. Consistent to the M5 V10 engine Manhart Racing has treated the Z4 to an original M5 E60 6 gear manual transmission which includes a Fichtel & Sachs clutch and a M5 E60 differential. An AC Schnitzer stainless steel exhaust system with four muffler tips which was fitted with HJS racing catalytic converters caters for a perfect V10 sound at the rear.

The Manhart Z4 M V10 goes like hell and thanks to the perfectly tuned Bilstein B16 PSS10 coilovers, the virtually unrestrained power of 550 HP can be brought under control to the tarmac. Black BBS Challenge wheels rotate in the wheel arches of the Manhart Z4 M V10 with 8.5Jx19 ET35 235/35ZR19 front tyres and 10Jx19 ET20 285/30ZR19 back tyres.

Conclusion: 550 HP ten cylinders, an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, kerb weight 1450kg, 2.6kg per HP… who could guess that these impressive figures belong to a Z4? Hardly anyone, however Manhart Racing turns dreams into reality and does this with 25 years experience.

The sDrive23i is available for sale in Europe and it’s with the entry-level 2.5-liter straight-six engine which produces 201 horsepower and 184 lb-ft at 2,750 rpm. The car achieves a top speed of 151 mph and goes from 0 to 62 mph in 6.6 seconds.

In the U.K, the BMW Z4 sDrive23i has a base price of £28,645 or approximately$47,200.

BMW Z2 is coming?

BMW Z2 is coming?

Is the rumored little roadster from BMW on track for a 2011 debut?
Auto Motor und Sport seems to think so. They even have a rendering by renowned artist Mark Stehrenberger to prove it. If we are to believe the rumors, the BMW Z2 should be closer to what the original Z3 was. That is, more of an entry level roadster to compete with the premium versions of the Mazda MX-5, compared to the more upscale Z4 that just debuted, which is more of a Porsche Boxster rival.

As we’ve told you before, the BMW Z2 would be based on the 1-series platform. To simplify things, BMW is rumored to be using a soft top rather than a retractable metal lid. The car will feature turbocharged and naturally aspirated four-cylinder powerplants in the 1.8-2.0 liter range. Horsepower should start around 150 and climb to 300 assuming an M version follows. There’s even a rumored hybrid variant with its gearbox positioned between the engine and an e-motor pack. Active steering, a dual clutch gearbox and active suspension could be part of the package with a base price rumored to be around $30,000.

The Eco-Supercar – BMW Z10 ED

Plans for an advanced green BMW supercar, the BMW Z10 ED, have been revealed.

The two-seat BMW Z10 ED, a product of the company’s secretive Technik division, will be BMW’s flagship. It is being developed as a showcase for new drivelines, electronic technologies, body construction and auxiliary components.

The Z10’s ‘ED’ suffix stands for Efficient Dynamics, BMW’s suite of fuel-saving technologies that also cut carbon emissions.

Technology proved on the Z10 will trickle down to volume models in the next decade.

The BMW Z10 ED will be built in limited numbers and sold for around £80,000 in today’s money.

It was originally planned as a one-off concept, but when bosses in Munich abandoned plans for a V10-powered mid-engined rival to the Audi R8 last year, a decision was made to make green technology a primary focus by advancing the Z10 to production.

“The idea is to bring all the very latest technology together in a way that will allow a high level of performance without overburdening the environment in a way that the current crop of supercars do,” said an insider privy to BMW’s plans. “There is no reason why they need to be mutually exclusive when you consider the sort of technology that exists today. It is just a matter of applying it correctly.”

BMW has a history of using its Technik division to bolster the image of its line-up. Previous models to head straight from its workshops to the showroom include the 3-series-based Z1 and, more recently, the E39 M5-based Z8.

Drawing on the carbonfibre construction techniques used on BMW’s one-off Z22 show car, plus the extensive use of aluminium chassis components, the BMW Z10 ED is intended to weigh no more than 1400kg.

Moving on from simple carbonfibre body panels, Munich engineers have patented a process that combines several parts into a single sub-assembly.

BMW is exploring integrated door frames and sill panels for the Z10, a move designed to ensure a low kerb weight and high bodyshell rigidity.

BMW will also use the Z10 ED to highlight its engine downsizing plans. “With recent advances in turbocharging, direct injection and thermal technology, we can now produce petrol engines with a comparatively small swept volume without any drop in performance over our existing powerplants,” a source told Autocar.

Among the engines said to be under consideration for the green supercar is a new high-pressure turbocharged direct-injection straight six. It would replace the 3.0-litre unit that’s used across the current BMW line-up.

The new motor has been conceived in two different guises; one uses a conventional mechanical valve system in combination with BMW’s double VANOS variable valve timing system, and another features electronic valve control that allows a variable compression ratio.

Expect the new engine to deliver in the region of 400bhp and drive through BMW’s recently introduced seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

In conjunction with stop-start, an integrated starter/generator and a refined version of today’s brake energy regeneration system, the new engine could boost efficiency by nearly 15 per cent.

The brake energy regeneration system will be modified to store energy in an additional lithium-ion battery, in effect making the BMW Z10 ED a hybrid.

BMW Z4 wins Eyes on Design Awards for best production vehicle

The 2009 BMW Z4 is not yet available to the consumers, but it has already starting to win awards. Each year, the Detroit Auto Show hosts the Eyes on Design Awards. The awards for design excellence are split into two categories: Concept and Production Vehicles. The winners were selected by a panel of 20 judges, all design executives.

Some of the jury members were the BMW design chief Chris Bangle, Harley-Davidson chief styling officer Willy G. Davidson, and transportation design chair at the College for Creative Studies Larry Erickson.

BMW Mulling Over 1-series Based Z2

Everything is getting smaller, SUV’s, Engines and now Roadsters. A report filed by German magazine Autozeitung has outlined BMW’s plans to produce a Z2 roadster based on the platform of the 1-Series. The idea is yet to get the full green light from the top brass at BMW, but we understand it has hit the highest level meaning that light change can’t be too far off.

There is a wide open market for an affordable roadster, particularly in the premium segment, the base 150hp Z4 currently sets consumers back a cool €30K whilst the 265hp model comes in at over €40K and with the launch of the its replacement almost upon us, there are no signs of this abating.

The BMW 1-series platform is perfectly poised to provide the underpinnings of the Z2, it has already successfully launched a convertible version for the 1-series and any modifications required should be quite inexpensive.

The Z2 would come with a fabric roof and styling would likely follow in the vein of its larger sibling. The ready made engine line-up of the 1-series should see an enticing 0-100km/h time of just under seven seconds and the top speed would lie at around 240km/h.

We would expect to see the Z2 hit the autoshow circuit in 2012 before going on sale the following year.

The new BMW Z4 will launch in November

The new BMW Z4 will launch in November

Word just came down from Munich: the new 2009 BMW Z4, stage name E89, will make its official debut in November. The marketing materials are in works now and the official videos are waiting to be filmed very soon.

We weren’t told if there will be any event revolving around the launch of the new Z4, but we wouldn’t surprised if BMW will pull something off like they did in Moscow, with the new 7 Series, but this time, probably in a warmer location.

So, stay tuned, as soon as we will hear something new, you will be the first to know.
